After an extensive endorsement process, the Metro DC Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America has voted by 95% to endorse Shayla Adams-Stafford for her election to District 5 of the Prince George’s County Council.
As a member of the Prince George’s County Board of Education, Board Member Adams-Stafford has been a constant champion for the people. She understands the realities that families, workers, and tenants face and governs every day with empathy to those realities. While in office, she championed project labor agreements for school construction projects and opposed the presence of armed law enforcement personnel in schools. Her stalwart advocacy for working class Prince Georgians led developer interests to try to expel her from of the Board of Education, but, every time they tried, she persevered.
Drawing on her experience as an educator, Board Member Adams-Stafford has fought to ensure that Prince George’s County schools provide Black and Latinx students with learning environments in which they can thrive. Recognizing that accomplishing that goal requires the full power of the Prince George’s County government, she is running for County Council to help build a county where public policy – especially with respect to development – benefits working class people. She is committed to advancing housing justice through strengthened tenant protections and the construction of social housing.
There is no question which District 5 candidate will govern for the people instead of for corporations, developers, and lobbyists. Shayla Adams-Stafford is a candidate and will be a Councilmember for the many, not the few, and Metro DC DSA members are thrilled to support her people-powered campaign.
