Join us for another Socialist Night School Thursday January 31st at Cleveland Park Library.

The presenter, Margaret McLaughlin, will be discussing the works of Frances Fox Piven and Richard Cloward, with a special focus on their book “Poor People’s Movements,” and how social movements can wield their power to log concrete wins for their communities against wealthy interests and indifferent bureaucratic systems.

Piven is a member and former honorary chair of DSA. Piven and Cloward have engaged in decades of activism, organizing, and academic work on social movements in the U.S., and spanning the topics of welfare, criminal justice, and election systems.
