Honolulu DSA’s nationally-endorsed candidate Kaniela Ing needs our help winning his election. With their primary less than 5 weeks away, and early voting starting in 2 weeks, they need all the help they can get.

We will be hosting an in-person phonebank where we will be calling the citizens of Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District and convince them to support Ing.

The phonebank will be this Thursday from 7-9pm at Liz’s office space (called Spaces) – near the red line stop Galludet University. 1140 3rd street NE, Washington, DC 20002.

Food and drinks are allowed!

Let’s show some solidarity with our Hawaiian comrades! Solidarity!

MEET KANIELA ING:

Kaniela Ing, a proud progressive, was first elected to the Hawaii State Legislature at the age of 23. He ran against a corporate-backed Democrat and a tea-party millionaire incumbent in what was then a Republican district. Although Kaniela was outspent ten-to-one, he won by a whopping 26 percentage points. And he did it the right way: through small donations, organizing grassroots volunteers, and knocking on every door–visiting over 15,000 homes.

During his six years in the legislature, Kaniela championed new laws to legalize industrial hemp to keep old sugar plantation land in agriculture, require Native Hawaiian law training for State board members, and expand voting access through automatic, online, and same-day-registration.

He also fought to pass marriage equality, raise the minimum wage, enact stricter gun control, regulate Super Pacs, raise taxes on billionaires, expand our national marine monument, and set the nation’s first 100% renewable energy goal.

Kaniela has shown the establishment that progressives can win and get things done.

Now, Kaniela is running for an open seat in Congress on his boldest progressive platform yet–championing Medicare-for-all, tuition free college, aggressive climate action, a $15 minimum wage, marijuana legalization, a universal job guarantee, gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and an end to reckless wars abroad–all while rejecting corporate PAC money to his campaign.

With decades of public service ahead of him, Kaniela is the young, viable progressive candidate we have been waiting for. But he needs our support to win his campaign.

This is our opportunity to prove to the corporate establishment what we can do. This is our chance to show the country that running on a bold, progressive platform can win in Congress.

Join us and help phonebank for Kaniela–and let’s win the world we want to see!
