“A society with empty mansions and unsheltered people is an unjust one. America has enough wealth to live up to its word and provide every resident with decent, dignified housing. Scarcity did not occur naturally; it was a political choice.” – Kaniela Ing, DSA Hawaii member and former candidate for Congress

Montgomery County is at the epicenter of an ongoing crisis of affordable housing, and we believe it’s time to expand the political conversation to include a solution that few in elected positions are even talking about: social housing. Social housing campaigns in Europe provide a successful framework that we should emulate in America––and in Montgomery County, where the market doesn’t build enough affordable units for anyone making less than $50,000 a year. Please join us as writer and researcher with the Democracy Collaborative’s Next Systems project Peter Gowan presents, “Social Housing in Montgomery County and the United States.
